Remember

Some days, life hurts. Sometimes it lasts for what seems like forever. Sometimes you spend every day reminding yourself to just keep breathing and relief will come.

And then some days you get a breath of fresh air. You finally feel like you have your head above water and you remember how much you love to swim. It's wonderful and strange, like getting a gift out of the blue.

And all you can do is remember and give thanks.

Don't forget all the dark nights; they make the light so much brighter.
Don't forget your aching heart; it reminds you what a miracle it is that it's still beating.
Don't forget what you've learned in this season of darkness, and keep learning in the light.

God is good. It means more when He is all you have and you can't get out of bed without Him, but you should feel that way in the good times, too. When things are going good and life is swell you need Him just as much as you did before. Don't forget just because you are in a season of happiness. John Piper says to preach truth to yourself, to hammer it into your mentality.

"Soul, this is true. Christ is everything to you. You need Him desperately. He is your only hope."

And then, once you remember, stop and take a look around you. Enjoy your life and all the blessings our Great God has given you. Thank Him for carrying you through. Laugh! Smile! Our God is good! He is returning! Let your heart sing!

"Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands."-Psalm 63:3-4 (ESV)
